Each new addition to the Growing A Future School Farm is a launching pad for new teaching and learning opportunities for our K-12 students and community members. Our most recent addition is our new Gazebo and Pollinator Garden built by the Elves (that’s the story we’re telling keeping with our middle earth themed farm). With the below imaginative and creative design in hand (thank you Kris Parr), we went to work turning this vision into a learning reality (click on an image to expand).
Although we have a few years of growing still in front of us before everything reaches its full beauty; the layout, soil preparation, pathways, irrigation, teaching gazebo, amphitheater, and primary perennial plants & trees are in place. It's a huge blessing to have the foundation of the Elven Pollinator Garden completed and ready for the students during the spring bloom (and K-5 Summer School).
WAYS TO HELP
There are a couple of ways you can help us make the pollinator garden even more magical. Take a look at the list below for areas of need:
Until the willow trees, bushes, plants and grasses grow to full maturity, we’ll have a lot of open planting space. We plan on filling them with annual flowers and bulb type plants. If you have any you would like to share or donate, please email us the types and numbers available
To expand on the Elf theme of the garden, we’re looking to add artistic works, benches, arbors, figures, large boulders, edging pavers, bricks, and fountains to the pathways and planting beds. If you have any you would like to donate, build or loan, please email us (a picture would be helpful)
Send all inquiries or possible donations to our email address at: growingafuture@gmail.com. The Growing a Future School Farm is a program of a 501(c)3 Oregon charity, so all donations are tax deductible.
Thank you!
